Lakshmi Yantra — Yantra

Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, fortune, and beauty, emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean bearing a lotus in her hand, and her yantra preserves this image of prosperity arising from patient, disciplined effort rather than mere chance. Unlike some tantric yantras associated with fierce or transformative deities, the Lakshmi Yantra carries a gentle, nurturing quality, reflecting her nature as the giver of sustenance, comfort, and material well-being to those who honor her with cleanliness, gratitude, and right conduct. The eight forms of Lakshmi celebrated in her Ashta Lakshmi Stotram, including Dhana Lakshmi for monetary wealth, Dhanya Lakshmi for grain and sustenance, and Vijaya Lakshmi for victory, are all understood to be encompassed within this single geometric form, making it a comprehensive instrument for inviting all dimensions of abundance rather than money alone. Traditional teaching holds that Lakshmi does not remain where there is disorder, dishonesty, or ingratitude, and so worship of her yantra is always paired with an emphasis on maintaining a clean, harmonious household and ethical conduct in business dealings. The yantra is especially central to Diwali celebrations, when it is ritually worshipped alongside Ganesha to invoke both wisdom and wealth together, since prosperity without wisdom is considered unstable and short-lived. Businesses, shopkeepers, and households across India install this yantra as one of the most common and beloved of all tantric instruments, valued for its promise of steady, sustainable abundance rather than fleeting windfall.

The Lakshmi Yantra is centered on an eight-petaled lotus, the goddess's own seat and symbol, radiating from a central bindu that represents the inexhaustible source of abundance. Surrounding triangles denote the eight forms of wealth, the Ashta Lakshmi, while an outer ring of smaller lotus petals and a square bhupura with four gates complete the design, inviting prosperity to flow inward from every direction.

Install the Lakshmi Yantra in the north direction of the home or shop, ideally near the cash box or main entrance to invite wealth inward. Worship on Fridays and throughout Diwali is especially auspicious, with offerings of lotus or marigold flowers, a ghee lamp, and sweets. Keep the surrounding space impeccably clean, as Lakshmi is believed to withdraw her presence from cluttered or neglected environments, and recite the mantra 108 times daily.
