Technique 112 of 112 — The Eternal Self-Radiance
Sanskrit Verse
svayamprakāśamānātmā sarvamevedamasthitam | draṣṭā caiva dṛśyaṃ caiva svātmā sarvasya bhairavaḥ ||
The Self is self-luminous and all-pervading. The seer and the seen are one. This Self of all is none other than Bhairava Himself.
Commentary
The 112th and final dharana represents the culmination of the entire Vijnana Bhairava Tantra. It is the realization of 'Svayam-prakasha'—the self-luminous nature of the Atman. Unlike a moon which reflects light, or a lamp which needs oil, the Supreme Consciousness shines by its own power. This dharana dissolves the final duality between the subject (the seer) and the object (the seen). In the state of Bhairava, there is no 'other.' The universe is not something observed by God; the universe is the self-observation of God. By realizing that your own 'I-consciousness' is the same 'I-consciousness' that illuminates the stars and the microscopic cells, you enter the state of Bhairava. This is not just a meditation but a permanent shift in perspective where every action, thought, and perception is recognized as the spontaneous play (lila) of the Absolute.
Practice Instructions
- 01Sit in silence and abandon all specific techniques of breath or visualization. Simply recognize the fact of your own existence: 'I AM.
- 02' Notice that this 'I AM' does not require any proof or external light to be known; it is self-evident.
- 03Expand this feeling of 'I-ness' to include everything in your environment. Realize that the person sitting, the floor beneath, and the space around are all contained within your awareness.
- 04See the 'Seer' (you) and the 'Seen' (the world) as two sides of the same coin of Bhairava-consciousness.
- 05Hold this conviction steadily: 'I am the self-luminous Bhairava in whom all things reside.
- 06' Allow all efforts to cease and rest in the natural radiance of the Self that never sets.

While 111 uses the sense-gates as a portal, 112 dispenses with the 'gates' entirely and focuses on the underlying Light that makes sensing possible. It is the shift from 'seeing God in things' to 'knowing everything is the Self.'
What if I don't feel 'self-luminous'?
The 'light' mentioned is not physical light, but the light of 'knowing.' The fact that you know you are reading this is the evidence of your self-luminosity. You don't need a flashlight to know you are conscious; that is the self-shining nature of the Self.
