Mangala — Navagraha

Mangala, the fiery planet Mars, is the celestial commander (Senapati) of the Navagrahas, representing courage, physical strength, aggression, discipline, and one's siblings, particularly brothers, in Vedic astrology. Born from the sweat of Vishnu that fell upon the Earth goddess Bhumi Devi during his Varaha (boar) incarnation, or in other accounts from the third eye of Shiva, Mangala embodies raw martial energy and the will to overcome obstacles through decisive, forceful action. He is depicted as a red-complexioned deity riding a ram or sometimes a chariot, holding weapons including a mace, trident, and sword, reflecting his warrior nature and protective, combative role among the celestial bodies. Mangala is closely associated with the concept of Mangal Dosha (also called Kuja Dosha) in matrimonial astrology, a significant affliction believed to occur when Mars is poorly placed in specific houses of the birth chart, potentially causing marital discord, delays in marriage, or conflicts, requiring specific remedial rituals before marriage compatibility is finalized. Beyond its challenging associations, a well-placed Mangala grants exceptional courage, athletic prowess, leadership in competitive fields, technical and engineering aptitude, and success in fields requiring decisive action such as military service, sports, and surgery. The worship of Mangala, particularly through the recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa (as Hanuman is considered to have a strong connection with Mars energy) and visiting Hanuman temples on Tuesdays, is a widely practiced remedy for pacifying malefic Mars influences and channeling its fiery energy toward constructive, disciplined action rather than impulsive aggression.

Worshipping Hanuman on Tuesdays, donating red lentils, jaggery, or copper items, fasting on Tuesdays, reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, and wearing red coral after consultation are traditional remedies for pacifying malefic Mars.
